Help with A positive result .1 on drug test for Keaton when didn't use
My son is in a drug court program. Been in quite awhile. He is well aware Kratom is not allowed. He has a great job he loves and he's engaged. His drug test came back positive .1 for Kratom so they put him in jail which will cost him his job. He is Having them send it back for retesting as he did not use any Kratom but they said no way it comes back positive as nothing could cause a false positive. Does anyone know of any very low false positive for this? Thanks
They tested for kratom specifically? I have heard of false positives for opiates due to kratom, but these are cleared up in the lab I guess. But of they tested specifically for kratom that's the first time I have heard of it. Also if they did test for it, there is not alot of information I can find that tells how long it would stay in your system. So maybe he took some a while back and it is stI'll in his system??

Yes, drug courts here test specifically for Kratom. I have not heard of something that would cause a false positive for it, but who knows?
Is this in a state where it is illegal? Secondary GC/MS confirmation of the fragmentation pattern would indicate mitragynine with a high degree of certainty. False positives are always within the realm of possibility.
🙁 Why would drug court(s) specifically test for Kratom, unless it's illegal in that particular state? Hmm...smh..do you mind sharing which state this is??
I've read that more & more drug testing facilities/companies are developing specific tests for kratom. However, my understanding is that they are not widely used as of yet. I hope they don't become popular.
I've read that kratom has resulted in false positives for methadone, and to a lesser degree other opiods. In any case, it would be cleared by further analysis (if no methadone/opiods were used) by MS/GC.
IMHO any drug court participant, parolee, probationer or employee should be given opportunity to have their sample retested by MS/GC, when they deny using the substance which tested positive. If further analysis confirms presence of "the" drug and/or its metabolites, the individual should have to pay cost of that testing.
I believe that to deny a request for additional testing is wrong!! A person can lose their job or go to jail/prison as a result of drug tests. I'm dismayed to hear a person in drug court wasn't able to demand & receive confirmation from GS/GC, and was jailed. I'm assuming the first test was either a mouth swab or urine dip stick??
There are 400+ pharmaceuticals & herbs known, that can cause false positives for other drugs. I've personally experienced what was later confirmed to be false positives!
I'm not familiar with any drug or herb that can cause false positives for Kratom specifically though.
